The Seedhill Strengths Map was created with the Seedhill community, led by artist, designer and researcher Skyler Ridewood. With people being Seedhill’s most valuable asset, the people of Seedhill defined the map boundaries while the base map and the map’s asset icons were artistically rendered by local children. The Map intends to chart key assets in Seedhill, both in terms of services and places. On the map you’ll find everything ranging from play parks to community services. The Maps boundary was also co-defined by Seedhill residents but vital assets that were on or just outside of this boundary were also included.

The Peoples Map of Seedhill

Before this, Katharine Macfarlane worked with us to develop the People’s Map of Seedhill. Differing from Skyler’s Seedhill Strengths project, the PMOS took shape based on people’s memories and senses.

The People’s Map of Seedhill was developed following consultation with community members where residents of Seedhill shared memories of growing up in the area, location specific sights, sounds and smells and their hopes for the future of Seedhill. These are woven into the map through images and words linked to specific streets so that the map goes beyond simple wayfinding to become a collective community response to life in Seedhill.

The Digital Map Seedhill Strengths above has been designed to accompany The People’s Map of Seedhill. Download your own pdf. copy of the map to use as you like. Please send us pictures of how you’ve used, adapted, and added to the map to info@rigarts.org or tag us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

Both the Seedhill Strengths Map and the People’s Map of Seedhill were delivered and created as part of the EVOLVE project. EVOLVE is a community arts project offering free community get togethers for Seedhill full of creative activities to celebrate local identity and community pride!
EVOLVE is delivered by RIG Arts in partnership with Williamsburgh Housing Association and One Ren, through the Culture Collective and funded by Creative Scotland.
